US Day 6: New York City!

I'm coming to you from Times Square in New York City! It's nice to be here even though last night was a disaster. Getting to New Jersey was a nightmare. I'll have to elaborate when I get home. It kind of put a damper on things for today.

Anyway, we're going to go see Central Park, Grand Central Station, FAO Schwarz and whatever else we kind find. We might go catch Rent if it's possible.

Anywhoo, gotta go. No time to be on the Internet :P

US Day 4: Washington DC!

We made it to Washington! It was bloody hot down there. I thought I would melt into a giant people puddle. We saw the Capitol building, the National Gallery of Art, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, The Mall and the White House from a distance (and when we drove by it).

It was a worthwhile trip. It was pretty crazy getting there and getting around but I'm so glad we got to go. It's a neat place and I plan on going back.

Tomorrow we leave Gettysburg and head to New Jersey/NYC! The last leg of our holiday is upon us :( I could travel all the time and be so happy.

I'm hoping on the way to Jersey that we get to swing through Lancaster, PA so we can stop at the Sonic that's there. It's a drive-in food place, for those that don't know. I've seen commercials and it looks like it could be good.

Anywhoo, I'm starving and tired. It's an early morning again tomorrow. I might make another post before I get back home but I don't know yet. If not, the next posts will be photo intensive, since I'll be home :P

US Day 2: Gettysburg!

Quick post to say hello! I'm in the lobby of the Super 8 hotel I'm staying at. They have a public computer :) Woo! It's so weird to be doing this right now. Second night in the states.

We left home last night and drove all the way to Scranton, PA. It was a longish drive but not so bad. I kind of wish it had been light out since we would have seen the mountains better. We had to drive through the Poconos. They were freakin' awesome. Before we left Scranton we ate breakfast at the Waffle House. The people were so nice and friendly. It was amazing. The food was really good too. Perfect portion sizes and everything. The waitress we had was one of the best I've ever had. Afterwards we went on the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour. We got to go in an old mine, 300 feet below the surface. It was really neat :) I took pictures, which I'll post when I get home.

We left Scranton around 2:30ish today. Got here after 6pm. It was a beautiful drive. Pennsylvania is gorgeous. We're going to be here the next couple of days and then it's off to New Jersey and New York City!

We're going to The National Sheep Dog Finals tomorrow. It should be interesting. We're going to try and get in some local sightseeing. I'm still trying to convince my Mum to go down to Washington. I'd like to see the Capitol of the US. Even if we don't make it, we've got fun places left to go to.

Now it's off to watch some House and then bed. I'll try and make more posts the rest of this trip. Yay Internet!

Holiday!

Tomorrow, I'm going away! I'll be back next week. I'm so excited! All the details are sorted and I can't wait to leave.

I haven't been out of the country in ages. I'm looking forward to it. I'm going with my Mum to Pennsylvania for the National Sheepdog Finals. They're in (near) Gettysburg. We'll be checking out some of the historical stuff as well as the sheepdogs.

After Pennsylvania we're going to New York City! Woooooooooo!!! I haven't been there in 19 years. I was seven when I was first there. The city left such a huge impression on me that I've been dying to get back. I'm so thrilled that I get to go :) I can't wait for a New York pretzel :P There's so much I'm going to want to do even though I can't do it all. Just being there will be awesome.

I'm planning to take an insane amount of pictures. I hope I can get somewhere to unload my photos from my camera and stick them on a CD or something. I know I'm going to run out of room. I'm taking my two gig card and my one gig.

This trip's going to be awesome. I can't wait. Anywhoo, I've gotta go make dinner now. Pasta, Vodka sauce from Classico and Lean ground beef. Mmm, so good.

an undersea, unexplained, mass sponge migration

I finished Heart of Darkness a couple of days ago. It was an odd story. I'm not entirely sure what I think of it really. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really my kind of thing. I guess maybe it wasn't what I was expecting. I'll probably have to read it again to get a better feel for it.

I'm now reading This Is Your Brain On Music. So far I like it. It's refreshed my memory of musical theory. I used to play the Tenor Sax in high school. I miss playing it so much. I used to play the piano as well and a little bit of guitar. I'm rusty at all of them now. Anywhoo, the book talks about how music affects us, scientifically, without reducing it to something altogether boring.

I've been reading a lot more lately. I'd gotten away from reading books for awhile. I've never stopped reading. I love to read and always have. I mostly read online and the occasional newspaper. There's nothing like holding an actual book in your hands though. It's that tangible thing that makes a difference.

Drip, drip, drop

My trip to Pennsylvania turned into a much bigger thing than planned but now it's up in the air again. I hope to have it as more than Pennsylvania but even if it's just that, it's somewhere I've never been. That's a positive thing at least. I'll know by the end of the weekend, all of where I'm going. I'd better since we're hoping to leave on Tuesday.

I've been sitting here thinking of what to write. I can't really think of anything. So, here's a list:

10 Random foods I enjoy

- My Mum's homemade tortellini
- Pumpkin pie
- Philly Steak Pitas from the Pita Pit
- Bread from Pasta Genova. I can't remember what the bread's called. They make it there along with pasta and sauces and other things. The place is amazing. It smells so good, you could eat the air.
- Beef Souvlaki
- Wonton Soup
- Honey Rolls (not sure of the actual name). It's a Greek dessert. It's, essentially, pastry covered in honey. It's so good.
- My Stepmum's, Granny's, Goulash
- Gelato
- Torpedo Steak Sandwich from the Brew Pub

No right turn on red signal

I've had fours sleep in the past thirty five. I don't feel all that tired. I'm actually pretty wired. I'm kind of agitated. I have the urge to drive downtown to drop in on some friends at their work. I usually end up down there but much earlier than this.

I can see Venus again. It looks orange.

I spontaneously decided to take a friend of mine to Ottawa, the night before last. We also ended up in Quebec. It was a bit of a nightmare to drive in downtown Ottawa. Give me Toronto roads any day. I hear so many people say how much they hate driving in Toronto. I don't see what's so bad about it. At least their streets are labeled clearly and every other street isn't one way only. I got stuck on so many one way streets it was ridiculous! To hell with you Ottawa. I'll take my car elsewhere.

I tried taking some photos but they came out blurry or way too dark. I can't find my mini tripod, which annoys me to no end. I haven't taken a good night shot since I lost it. It was also piss pouring rain so I couldn't set my camera on anything to steady it, or I would have done that.

I might be going to Pennsylvania next week. I'm not sure yet since all the plans haven't been finalized. I've never been there before. The only two states I've been to are New York and New Jersey. It'd be cool to see more.

Haven't slept in years

Okay, that title's a lie. I sleep but not at night. I'd rather sleep at night though. Sleeping all day sucks ass. I can see Venus when I look out the window.

I started reading Heart of Darkness a couple of days ago. I tried starting it years ago but never got past the first couple of pages. This time, I'm getting into it. I'm trying to read things with more substance than, say, Harry Potter. There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter but I want more than that.

I miss Toronto. I want to move back. I had been planning to at the beginning of this month but I had to change my plans. I hope to travel instead of trying to find a new place to move to.

I took that photo back in May when I was on my way back from Burlington. Stopped at Ikea and bought some crap. I love Ikea.

The sky's gotten lighter. The sun will be rising soon. It's almost time for me to go to bed. Joy.
